In March of 2016 International Professional Rugby 7’s displaced the local amateur cricketing community of its 2 playing surfaces at Brockton Point in Stanley Park without even a buy your leave. As of April 16, 2016 the artificial wickets have not been replaced. The squares are cut. Grass seed is sprinkled where the artificial pitches used to lie. The BCMCL season begins April 24, 2016. Pak Can V Cosmos is scheduled for Upper Brockton. The Vancouver Parks Board has delayed the issue of user permits. The Kyle Cup for under 19 provincial cricket supremacy is to be held in May and the under 19’s have nowhere to assemble or practice. Who Pays?
April 20, 2016 the City of Vancouver will close the Vancouver Aquatic Centre to recreational users and swimming clubs in order to accommodate the Vancouver Police who are setting up a command post to monitor a rally to be held at Sunset Beach same day. Lifeguards and aquatic centre personnel will lose a day’s pay. People going about lawful recreational pursuits will be inconvenienced. The police and city staff will incur overtime and command and control set up and disassembly costs and clean up. Who Pays?
